frequent questions
Can't I just use paper cones instead of wooden ones?
It could, but I'd be worried about transferring moisture to the cone, as well as getting crushed. The cones I bought were good and sturdy and the same price as the paper cones.
Can you make these charcuterie cones ahead of time?
You can slice your cheeses and meats, wash your produce, and prepare anything else that goes into the cone. I find it best to assemble the cones as soon as possible before serving. If you're making a lot, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and store in the fridge. Add bread or crackers before serving.
Can I change what is placed at the bottom of the cone?
Clear! Just make sure it's dry and doesn't melt if it gets hot if you serve it outdoors. A piece of chocolate would be a nice finish, but not if you serve it outside in warm weather. A strawberry would also work well as long as you can find relatively small berries.
💭 Important tips for homemade sausage cones
Use your favorite meats like salami, jamón iberico or mortadella.
Any type of cheese would work, including soft cheeses like brie cut into small slices.
Try adding a small piece of honeycomb for a delicious treat and a pretty presentation!
It's best to make a cone ahead of time to make sure it works. Sometimes things look great in our heads and just don't work out the way we thought! (Or is it just me?!)
Do not overload the cones. Keep in mind that there will be other appetizers, so there should be enough food to try everything.
